No chance of Mortal Kombat 1-3 on Wii U

Mortal Kombat fans hoping to see the first three games in the fighting franchise released on the Wii U Virtual Console are plain out of luck. It’s not going to happen, series co-creator Ed Boon says.

Asked by a fan on Twitter what the chances are for re-releases of the first three games for Wii U are, Boon succinctly replied, “0.0%” It’s worth noting that re-releases of those classic games are already available on Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and PC in the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection.

Games in the beloved Mortal Kombat franchise have appeared on Nintendo platforms like the SNES, Nintendo 64, and Wii. None have ever been released on Wii U, but Boon said previously that he thinks the Wii U GamePad controller opens up interesting avenues for play.

“I would like to think we could think of something really innovative and cool. We are all very excited. Whenever there is new hardware you start to think on a bigger scale,” Boon told GameTrailers about the Wii U in 2011, before its release. “When you see that screen and controller in there, to me things start connecting in terms of what we can do with our game, enhancing the experience.”
