Overwatch is out today, and if you’re looking forward to playing ranked mode, then you’ll have to wait about a month. Game director Jeff Kaplan announced that Competitive Play would be available next month in the game’s first big update (via VG 24/7).
During a Blizzard-hosted Facebook Q&A, Kaplan answered some community questions, including one on the game’s competitive mode. He said that it’s what the team is currently focused on and that it would be released when it’s finished. No specific date was given, but he said it’ll probably be released with the first big update in mid-to-late June.
Additionally, the Overwatch story videos will continue with a second season. Season 1 finished with a video on Soldier 76, while Season 2 is confirmed to include hook-and-shotgun user Roadhog.

Competitive Play was previously planned for launch, though it was dropped after Kaplan and Blizzard considered fan feedback from the closed beta. It’s not clear what will be changed, but you can see how Blizzard will approach ranked matchmaking right here.
