Following its release in Japan in 2012, open-world, crime-themed action game Yakuza 5 launches in North America later this year. While Sega has yet to reveal an official release date, the publisher on Tuesday announced that preorders for the PlayStation 3 game have opened through the PlayStation Network.
Yakuza 5 will cost $40, and everyone who preorders will save 15 percent, bringing the price down to $34. In addition, people who preorder will receive a “Fulfiller of Dreams” static theme (see it below).
Preorders are expected to open today at this page, but they don’t appear to be available just yet.
Alongside today’s Yakuza 5 preorder news, Sega has published the third and final entry in its “Developer Interview” video series. Watch the video below to hear directly from Sony’s third-party manager Gio Corsi, as well as Yakuza series director Toshihiro Nagoshi and producer Masayoshi Yokoyama, who talk about the game’s music, themes, and more.
The last Yakuza game to be released outside of Japan was Yakuza 4 in 2011. Yakuza 5, which features a new graphics engine, follows Kazuma Kiryu and four other protagonists in their struggles and conflicts in the seedy underbelly of Japan’s Yakuza underworld.
