PS4 Price Drop to $300 Goes Into Effect for the Holidays

Sony’s aggressive holiday PlayStation 4 price cut goes into effect today, December 6. Now through December 19–the prime holiday shopping season–you can get a new console for $300, a $50 markdown. That’s the same discount that Sony offered for Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

This price applies to the Star Wars Battlefront standard edition bundle and the Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection package. The offer is good at retailers across the United States.

Some retailers are even sweetening the deal further. For example, Best Buy will give you a free copy of Destiny: The Taken King – Legendary Edition when you buy the Uncharted bundle.

So far, Microsoft has not followed suit with its own Xbox One discount to level the playing field. The Xbox One starts at $350. It was also offered for $300 on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

The holiday shopping season is an important one for the entire industry, and this price cut gives Sony the edge, at least in terms of price point. The Battlefront bundle could also benefit from the buzz around Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which some are projecting to become the most successful movie of all time.
