With the next big expansion for Rainbow Six Siege just over a week away, Ubisoft has shared new details about its main additions.
As with previous expansions, this next one, Operation Skull Rain, adds two Operators and a map. The map puts players in a Brazilian favela that Ubisoft describes in a blog post as Siege’s “most destructible map to date.”
As for the Operators, they both come from Brazil’s Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais, or BOPE. Caveira is a defense character who is equipped with an M12 or SPAS-15 as a primary weapon, a PRB92 secondary, and C4 or barbed wire. Her skill is Silent Step, which lets her sneak up on an enemy, immobilize them, and interrogate them to get the location of all members of the enemy team.
BOPE’s offense character is Capitão, who carries an M-249 or PARA-308, PRB92, and frag or stun grenades. He also has a crossbow that fires “asphyxiating bolts that burn oxygen within a certain radius” or “micro” smoke grenades.
Other additions in Skull Rain are an angled grip attachment (which takes less time to switch from hip fire to aiming down the sights), a surrender system (letting ranked matches end early if the majority of a team votes for one before the third round), and a Tactical Realism custom game mode (doing away with kill confirmations and a number of other HUD elements, and adding “more realistic magazine management”).
Skull Rain will be released for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on August 2. The map will be free to all players right away, while those with Siege’s season pass will get instant access to the new Operators, who will be exclusive to those players for a week. After that, they’ll be available to purchase by anyone with in-game currency.
More details are set to be announced as part of the Xbox Pro League Season 2 Finals on July 29 at 10 PM ET / 7 PM PT.
