Report: PS4 Getting 1080p Dark Cloud Via PS2 Emulator

Classic PlayStation 2 role-playing game Dark Cloud is allegedly coming to the PS4 via an emulator. As detailed by Game Informer, Sony reportedly revealed the announcement early by accident, although the video reveal has since been taken offline.

According to the report, the game will be playable in 1080p via up-rendering, have trophy support, and be compatible with the remote play and share play features. The video description also notes that “PS2 Classics and PS2-formatted discs are incompatible with the PS4 system.”

It shouldn’t come as a surprise, given Sony revealed last month that it was working on emulation technologies that would bring PlayStation 2 games to the PlayStation 4. This was following a survey it sent out in October asking PS4 users to list the most important features they would like to see added to the console. Among these was the option of support for PS1 and PS2 classics.

Dark Cloud was first released in 2000 in Japan exclusively for the PlayStation 2. The RGP was positively received in GameSpot’s review, scoring an 8.1 out of 10 for its ability to successfully blend adventure, RPG, simulation, and strategy elements into one game.

The Game Awards concluded tonight so it’s likely the announcement will be made at the upcoming PlayStation Experience Event, which will take place on December 5-6. GameSpot will be present at the show so be sure to stay tuned to our hub for news as it gets announced.
