Rise of the Tomb Raider Marketing Stunt Sees Microsoft Throwing Snow at People

Microsoft’s marketing is really going all out for Rise of the Tomb Raider, today launching one of the more over-the-top stunts we’ve ever seen. Called Survival Billboard, the “endurance test like no other” sees eight contestants standing on a billboard as they are subjected to all manner of environmental conditions.

The contestants will face “arctic cold, intense wind, wild snowstorms, and sudden heat.” What elements they face are determined by a popular vote on this website. You can watch this play out live on Twitch through the embed above (commercials for Rise of the Tomb Raider also run during the stream). As of 11 AM EDT on November 12, all eight remained standing.

What do you get for winning?

“The last person standing wins a trip inspired by Rise of the Tomb Raider, with the opportunity to explore deep jungles, traverse vast deserts, and relax in some of the world’s most exotic places,” Microsoft said.

No further specifics about the prize were announced. And we’re not

The eight contestants all sound like they could go the distance. For example, participant Sarah Moore says she’s prepared for both extreme heat and cold, as she’s worked in a freezer at her job and has spent summers in Asia. You can read profiles for all eight contestants here.

The Survival Billboard is located in London, the home of Tomb Raider hero Lara Croft. Images from a the Survival Billboard test run are available in the gallery below.
