The Pokemon Company teases that a “shocking” new project Pokemon project of some sort will be announced next week. Unfortunately, it’s provided no indication as to what this project could be–it’s possible it won’t turn out to be a game–or what, exactly, makes it “shocking.”
This tease was made on the official Japanese Pokemon website (as translated by Siliconera). The announcement will be made during a live stream on Nico Nico next Tuesday, August 26, in collaboration with Japanese video game publication Famitsu. The stream will begin at 10 PM JST (6AM PDT/9AM EDT). Pokemon Company president Tsunekazu Ishihara will descend from his tower of money to make an appearance.
Among the Pokemon video game projects we know about right now are the Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire remakes headed to 3DS in November and the card game coming to iPad. Siliconera notes that, last year, a teaser image was shown at a Pokemon event that may have revealed a new game. The site also uncovered trademarks for two names–Pokken Fighters and Pokken Tournament–that may be related, though whether that is the case (or if that has anything to do with the upcoming announcement) is unclear for the time being.
Outside of the games themselves, there has been no shortage of Pokemon news recently, between the online merchandise store going live, an orchestral concert tour being announced, and the launch of a dedicated iTunes hub.
Considering the door is wide open as to what next week’s announcement could be, what would you most like to see–a 3D RPG for Wii U? A new Pokemon Snap? Something else entirely? Let us know in the comments below.
