So far, Sony has mostly focused on showcasing games for PlayStation VR. This is no small surprise given that it’s a headset for the PlayStation 4. But PlayStation VR, like Oculus Rift, will offer more than just games. Sony will start to talk about these types of “what else” features next year, Sony president of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, told GameSpot this week at PlayStation Experience.

“These things we are not able to show as yet. We are working hard to prepare for the reveal of these features that we haven’t been able to talk about [for] PlayStation VR,” Yoshida said, “as well as of course pricing and release date and what do you get when you buy the system.”

This information will be revealed in 2016 sometime before the headset goes on sale. It’s scheduled to be commercially available in the first half of 2016, which means sometime in the January-June window. In terms of pricing, Sony expects the system will be priced “as a new gaming platform,” though exactly what that means remains to be seen.

“What we haven’t been showing is the ‘what else,'” Yoshida added. “Because it’s a new system, people are looking forward to know, other than playing VR games, what they can do with PS VR when they purchase it.”

Yoshida didn’t provide any specifics, but praised the Samsung Gear VR headset for its suite of non-gaming apps and functionality, including support for streaming services like Netflix and Twitch. It sounds like you can expect something similar with PlayStation VR, though this is not confirmed.

Just this week, Sony announced a half-dozen new PlayStation VR games. One of these, 100-Foot Robot Golf, involves giant robots runing around and beating each other over the head with golf clubs. Another, Eagle Flight from Ubisoft, sees players becoming an eagle and soaring over Paris.
