South Park Creators "Really, Really" Involved With Fractured But Whole

It’s not always the case that the creators of a franchise are deeply involved with a game based on their work, but that’s definitely true for the new South Park title. The creators of the satirical animated show, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, are very much part of the development process for this year’s The Fractured But Whole.

“They’re really, really involved,” senior produce Jason Schroeder told the PlayStation Blog. “We have daily calls and I’m down there [at the South Park Digital Studios office] a few times a month just constantly trying to make sure that they’re getting the comedy they want into the game and making sure that it all makes sense moment to moment.”

Schroeder added that Stone and Parker are gamers, so “there’s a really easy common language.” He further explained that some of Stone and Parker’s best comedy comes with deadlines and pressure hanging over their heads.

“Separate from the game, they truly make each episode of South Park in just six days,” Schroeder said. “It’s from that pressure that they get their really relevant, really timely jokes. The video game cycle, by comparison, is brutally long for them.”

Schroeder went on to say that it’s his aim for The Fractured But Whole to be faithful to the source material such that it comes across as an “unedited Matt Stone and Trey Parker experience.”

That also extends to the controversial nature of South Park and how The Fractured But Whole also aims to push the envelope.

“There’s hopefully going to be some stuff in there that people will say, ‘How did that make it through classification?,'” Schroeder said.

2014’s South Park: The Stick of Truth featured sequences that depicted anal probing, abortion, and swastikas.

The Fractured But Whole launches on December 6 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Unlike the first game, which was made by Fallout: New Vegas developer Obsidian Entertainment, the sequel is being made internally by Ubisoft San Francisco.

We learned at E3 last month The Fractured But Whole will allow players to control their sphincter while pooping with “total ass control.”
