Iconic Marvel superhero Spider-Man joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe in this May’s Captain America: Civil War, appearing alongside other famous heroes like Iron-Man and Captain America. Now, it’s been confirmed that 2017’s standalone Spider-Man movie will see the wall-crawling web-slinger joined by other MCU characters, though at this stage, it’s not clear who.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige shared the news with Entertainment Weekly today. “[Spider-man] is in the universe now, and the fun of the universe is that characters go back and forth,” Feige said.
Tom Holland will play a 15-year-old Peter Parker in the new Spider-Man movie, a reboot that will be directed by Cop Car‘s Jon Watts.
“I love the idea of making a coming-of-age high school movie,” Watts said in an interview last year. “We’re really going to see Peter Parker in high school and get deeper into that side of it. He’s just 15 now. Tom was pretty perfect. He’s very athletic. He can actually do a backflip! If he didn’t already capture the spirit of the character, with that on top, the kid is Spider-Man.”
In February 2016, a deal was struck between Marvel and Sony–which holds the big-screen rights to the character–to allow Marvel to include him in their ongoing Cinematic Universe. 2017’s Spider-Man will be a co-production between both studios.
The new Spider-Man opens on July 7, 2017, a few weeks earlier than initially expected.
