The crowdfunding campaign for PC space game Star Citizen continues to climb. Three years after it began in October 2012, the campaign has now reached more than $92 million pledges from over 1 million backers. As of press time, funding stands at $92.75 million from 1,010,546 contributors.
Creator Chris Roberts said previously that he expects Star Citizen’s crowdfunding to hit $100 million. Given the pace it’s on, that seems likely to happen before the year is out.
The 1 million backer milestone was achieved following last weekend’s CitizenCon, the annual fan event dedicated to the game. At the gathering, developer Cloud Imperium Games made a number of announcements, including casting details for Star Citizen’s campaign mode, Squadron 42.
Well-known actors Gary Oldman, Mark Hamill, John Rhys-Davies, Gillian Anderson, Andy Serkis, Ben Mendelsohn, and Mark Strong will appear in the game. Oldman’s character, Admiral Bishop, gives an emotional speech during the game’s opening cinematic; watch it in the video above.
