Star Wars: The Force Awakens TV Spot Reveals New Footage

Despite a suggestion that October’s full Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer would be the last look at the film before it hits cinemas next month, there has been quite a bit of new footage released since. The latest is a TV spot, which was broadcast last night (November 12). Check it out here:

The new shots in this short teaser include John Boyega’s Finn fighting a Stormtrooper with his lightsaber, a shot of assembled Resistance leaders–including Return of the Jedi‘s Admiral Ackbar–and a suitably laconic quip from Han Solo.

In other Force Awakens news, actor Andy Serkis has spoken about his role as one of the film’s most mysterious new characters, the villainous Supreme Leader Snoke. Snoke is one of the few entirely CG creations, who was performed by the Lord of the Rings star in a motion capture suit. Serkis revealed that the look of his character changed throughout the entire production process.

“When we first started working on it, he [director JJ Abrams] had some rough notions of how Snoke was gonna look, but it really hadn’t been fully-formed and it almost came out of discussion and performance,” Serkis told EW. “We shot on set of course, and I was in the scenes I have with other actors, but the beauty of this process is you can go back and reiterate, keep informing and honing beats and moments.

“In the meantime, I’ve been able to see the look and design of the character grow and change as the performances change. So it’s been really exciting in that respect.”

On Thursday, Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o discussed her own experience of playing another of the film’s mo-capped characters, the alien pirate Maz Kanata–read that here.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens on December 18, 2015. It also stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill.
