Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #2
Every week, we take a look at some of the most bizarre, exciting, and downright unique things to happen in comics. Check out our choices below of the strange and wacky things that shouldn’t be overlooked from this week’s releases.
There may be some tiny spoilers below.
Best Batman Impression
When the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ended up in Gotham City, they had a big battle with Batman (more detail HERE). Later when they’re talking about the encounter, we see their imitation of what Batman looks like.
Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #2
Best Batman Venn Diagram
Continuing their discussion of Batman, Michelangelo decided to make a graph and what is awesome and not-awesome about Batman. It’s not exactly a proper Venn diagram but you have to admit he makes some good points.
All-New, All-Different Avengers #3
Best Lesson on Temperature
Even when fighting a crazed alien conqueror, there’s still time to get a Science lesson. Iron Man explains the different in the temperatures between the surface of the sun and lighting. Google it yourself if you don’t believe him!
Superman: American Alien #3
Best Reason to Impersonate Bruce Wayne
During Superman’s younger days, he spent all of his time in Smallville. When taking a vacation and riding in an airplane for the first time, the small craft crashed into the ocean. Clark managed to save the pilot and they boarded a nearby yacht which happened to be set up to celebrate the birthday of billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne. Wayne never shows up to these parties and everyone mistakes Clark for Bruce.
The Mighty Thor #3
Best Response to Loki Wanting to Form a Truce
Loki is trying to form an alliance with the new Thor. He gives her a big story about how he wants to turn over a new leaf and be the worthy person his mother believes him to be. Thor knows better and responds with a blow to the head with Mjolnir. Don’t worry, Loki is still okay.
Batman and Robin Eternal #15
Best Way to Make Things Trickier for an Escape Artist
Jason Todd has found himself captured by the Order of St. Dumas. They decided to throw him in a pit which just makes him laugh. He points out that he was trained by the world’s greatest escape artist (Batman). A simple hole in the ground won’t stop him…until he realizes it has a metal cover which makes things trickier.
All-New X-Men #3
Best Reason to Watch Your Meat Metaphors
Some college-aged mutants have started calling themselves the Ghost of Cyclops. They’re all about standing up to authority and all that. When referring to the police, they use some of your typical meat metaphors. Hank McCoy (Beast) feels they may have gone a little too far with them.
Starfire #8
Most Unexpected “That’s What She Said” Moment
Dick Grayson and Starfire used to be an item a long time ago. Dick is in town on a mission and runs into Starfire. They grab a bit to eat and when Dick asks for another side of sausage, Starfire makes a surprising “That’s what she said” remark. Starfire isn’t usually the type of person to use that phrase.
Amazing Spider-Man & Silk: Spider(Fly) Effect #1
Best Reason Not to Use the Word “Tingles”
You may have heard how Spider-Man refers to the feeling when his Spider-senses go off, warning him of danger. He always says they’re tingling. When you think about it, it’s a little weird. Cindy Moon (Silk) thinks it’s really weird and asks him to stop.
Citizen Jack #3
Best Urkel “Did I Do That” Reference
This reference did come up recently in another edition. Do you remember the TV show Family Matters? The family’s neighbor, Urkel, was a bit of a klutz. Whenever he did something bad, he’d ask, “Did I do that?” The being that says it in this issue of Citizen Jack is nothing like Urkel but I couldn’t help but think of a twisted and evil version of Urkel when this scene played out.
You can see an example of Urkel saying the line HERE.
X-Men: Worst X-Men Ever #2
Best Reason Super Heroes Need Lawyers
Some people will try to sue someone for whatever reason they can think of. When the X-Men’s School for Gifted Youngsters was attacked by an anti-mutant group, Bailey went after one of the attackers. The attacker’s story now is he saw the error of his ways and was trying to run from the mistake he involved himself in when he was traumatized by a mutant.
Squadron Supreme #3
Best Calling Out of a Batman Pastiche
Some would say the members of the Squadron Supreme bare a strong resemblance to the members of the Justice League. These are characters from two different publishers. When the Squadron finds themselves facing the Avengers Unity Squad, Deadpool is a little confused with Nighthawk since he kind of seems like Batman.
Squadron Supreme #3
Best Booby Trap
The Squadron Supreme doesn’t mess around and they don’t really take any prisoners. One way they cope with having to deal with a speedster on the opposing team is stringing up some invisible polymer that takes Quicksilver out of the game. He’s lucky he didn’t lose his head over this one.
Captain America: Sam Wilson #5
Best Way to Pass Time When You’re Babysitting
The new Falcon has to be locked up for his protection. Dennis Dunphy, D-Man, is watching over him and decides the best way to pass time is by playing the ultimate board game–Risk. When that idea doesn’t fly, he suggests watching the boob tube.
Catwoman #48
Best Batman Returns Reference
Selina Kyle, Catwoman, has gotten herself into a sticky situation. There’s a lot of people on both sides of the law after her. She decides to cut and dye her hair. When she asks how it looks, she’s described as looking like Michelle Pfeiffer, who happened to play Catwoman in1992’s Batman Returns.
All-New Wolverine #4
Best Full-Page Recap on a Character
There are times when you have to try to explain who the new Wolverine is to someone that hasn’t been reading comics lately. X-23 was a clone created from Wolverine’s DNA. She was created to be a killing machine and lived most of her life locked up except when she went on assassination missions. Her doctor at the facility was the only kind person to her. When Laura escaped the facility, she lived on the streets and became a prostitute. Just about all of this is explained in this one image.
All-New Wolverine #4
Best Meta Comment on a Big Change to a Character
The original Wolverine is dead. Since X-23 basically looked at Logan as her father, she decided to honor his memory by taking on the mantle of the Wolverine. This is her way of keeping him alive.
As fascinating as the character is, there is a vocal minority who is opposed to the idea of Laura being Wolverine. She pretty much hits the nail on the head.
