Your Favorite Characters Return to the Battlefield
The upcoming Star Wars Battlefront offers more than just the standard playable storm trooper or rebel soldier. In fact, the game also lets you play as iconic characters from the Star Wars universe, such as Luke Skywalker and even Darth Vader. Each of these characters come equipped with their own unique abilities and tactical advantages and can only be played during specific modes. Join us as we give a rundown on what modes you can play using these characters and what you need to know about each one!
How to Play as Them
In Star Wars Battlefront, the iconic characters are directly accessible in two main modes: Heroes vs. Villains and Hero Hunt. Heroes vs. Villains is a mode where three of six players on a team control iconic characters as they face off against the opposing team’s iconic characters and troops, while Hero Hunt revolves around one player controlling either a hero or villain and fighting off seven ground troops of the opposing faction.
Besides these two main modes, it’s also possible to play as iconic characters in the Walker Assault and Supremacy modes. This can be done by acquiring special tokens that grant you the ability to play them. Like supply drops, these tokens are spawned randomly across the battlefield. After acquiring one, you have a limited time to activate it, and upon doing so, you can choose one of three characters to play as. Depending on which side you’re on–Rebels or Imperials–your choice of characters will vary. It’s also worth noting that unlike the beta, there are no time limits restricting how long you can play as these characters. The heroes and villains are as follows:
Rebels:
- Luke Skywalker
- Princess Leia Organa
- Han Solo
Imperials:
- Darth Vader
- Emperor Palpatine
- Boba Fett
Luke Skywalker
Special Abilities: Force Push, Saber Rush, Heavy Strike
Description: Luke Skywalker is a lightsaber melee character whose speed and offensive power makes him a well-balanced hero to play as. His Force Push ability is useful for creating distance between enemies, while his Saber Rush attack is handy for closing the gap. He also has an ability called Heavy Strike, which is a slower but more powerful lightsaber slash that can inflict a significant amount of damage.
Princess Leia
Special Abilities: Enhanced Shield, Supply Drop, Trooper Bane
Description: Princess Leia is a laser rifle character with a variety of abilities that make her well-suited for different types of combat situations. She’s well-equipped defensively with an Enhanced Shield ability, an upgraded version of the normal force field that lasts longer and takes more hits, and a Supply Drop ability that calls in weapons and items. She also has the Trooper Bane ability, which is a charged shot that can one-shot a Storm Trooper and inflict tremendous damage against a villain character and stun them.
Han Solo
Special Abilities: Shoulder Charge, Rapid Fire, Lucky Shot
Description: The lovable rogue Han Solo is a laser pistol character who’s great to use in order to pile on pressure against enemy troops. His Shoulder Charge closes the gap with an offensive tackle, and his Rapid Fire ability is a good way to stifle enemies with a barrage of laser fire. His Lucky Shot special ability also comes in handy for more tactical situations, letting him charge up a laser pistol shot that can deal serious damage to enemies on contact.
Darth Vader
Special Abilities: Saber Throw, Heavy Strike, Force Choke
Description: The infamous Darth Vader is a slower moving lightsaber melee character, but he makes up for this lack of speed with his sheer offensive power and ranged special abilities. His Force Choke holds up an enemy in place and slowly decreases their health, which is a great set up for his powerful (and self-explanatory) Saber Throw ability. Like Luke, Darth Vader also has a Heavy Strike special ability that deals high damage to enemies. It’s worth noting that when he connects a Heavy Strike against Luke’s, it will trigger a lightsaber clash.
Emperor Palpatine
Special Abilities: Imperial Resources, Force Dash, Chain Lightning
Description: The tyrannical Emperor Palpatine can be best described as a mid-to-close range spell caster. His main form of attack is his iconic lightning force abilities; he can amplify this power with a special ability called Chain Lightning, which deals out a version of the attack that does increased damage against multiple enemies. But while the Emperor’s attacks don’t reach very far, he does have a Force Dash ability that can close the distance between enemies as well as navigate to higher ledges. Additionally, he can also act as a support character by calling in supplies with his Imperial Resources ability.
Boba Fett
Special Abilities: Wrist Rocket, Jetpack, Flamethrower
Description: The legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett sports multiple offensive options and enhanced mobility. Both his Flamethrower and Wrist Rockets can do a lot of damage to enemies, making him a considerable threat on the battlefield. He’s also a threat from above thanks to his Jetpack special ability, which he can use at any time to move in and out of conflicts as long as there’s enough energy in its fuel meter.
