The Last Guardian is "absolutely" still on the way, but Sony won’t say if it’s coming to PS4

Sony’s perpetually-delayed adventure The Last Guardian is still “absolutely in the mix” of games Sony Worldwide Studios is working on, the company has said.

“You’re going to be very frustrated by this answer,” Sony Worldwide Studios development head Scott Rohde said when asked by IGN about the status of The Last Guardian, “but it is 100 percent the God’s honest truth, and that is that we want to make great games. And when we see that the public is so interested in a specific game, of course that drives us to want to complete that game. But it also drives us to want to make it great. We would not want to ship that game if we don’t think it’s great.”

Rohde added that he was “not going to announce what platform it’s coming on, who’s working on it, who’s involved. But that is still a title that’s absolutely in the mix at Worldwide Studios. That’s the most you’re gonna get.”

“I love that people are still interested in it. That’s an honor to us. That’s not just me spinning… It’s really cool that people are still interested in it, and we’re trying to make the best thing we can out of The Last Guardian.”

Sony unveiled The Last Guardian way back in 2009, and the game has been notoriously absent ever since. Sony’s president of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, said last month that the developer was “reengineering” The Last Guardian, though he would not say if the game was in development for PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4.

“I feel terribly sorry that for various reasons I have kept my audience waiting for such a long time,” said original director Fumito Ueda in November 2013. Ueda stopped working as a full-time employee in 2011, saying he would work on The Last Guardian in a freelance capacity.
