The Secret Life of Pets is set to have a dominant opening weekend at the US box office. The talking animals movie is projected to make $95 million in its debut weekend, Variety reports.
Estimates say that the Illumination-produced animated movie, which is distributed by Universal Studios, will have a $35 million to $38 million opening day. It opens in 4,329 North American theaters.
It’s also expected to pass Finding Dory, which will take the second spot with about $18 million. Despite The Secret Life of Pets‘ strong performance, it won’t outpace Finding Dory‘s impressive animation opening weekend record of $136.2 million.
The Secret Life of Pets opens in North American theaters today, July 8. It stars the likes of comedian Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family), Kevin Hart (Central Intelligence), Jenny Slate (Zootropolis), and Ellie Kemper (21 Jump Street). It also features the voice of Finding Dory‘s Albert Brooks.
