Black Knight (Zelgius), Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn

Known only as the Black Knight in Path of Radiance, he’s a cold and ruthless character. Being a Marshall, he can wield most weapons, plus he has the Eclipse skill, which delivers a blow that’s five times the usual strength. The skill also negates enemy resistance and defense. Add in his additional Nihil skill that he gains in Radiant Dawn, and this Boss is one you can spend hours trying to defeat.

Grima, Awakening

The big bad in Awakening, Grima can be a pretty tough nut to crack. Grimleal reinforcements make him a not-so-easy kill. You have to kill him quickly, or those reinforcements can wear you down. In addition, Grima has Dragonskin and Anathema, plus (if you play him on harder modes) Ignis, Pavise and Taguel attacks.

Fire Dragon final boss, Rekka no Ken

The final boss, with a flametongue weapon, is not an incredibly impossible kill, but it should be remembered that it does a damage of 37 in normal mode, and a 38-40 damage in hard mode.

Ashnard, Path of Radiance

He’s the biggest big bad in Path of Radiance. He has a wicked sword, plus a Black Dragon Prince that he rides. On top of that, he has good stats, and his movement range is pretty great, too. Oh, and his quotes? Epic.

Arvis (Alvis), Genealogy of the Holy War

In the prologue, forget it: With a Valflame and a Recover Ring, he’s pretty much impossible to kill. By Chapter 10, though, he’s been downgraded to just super frickin’ difficult, since he has (because of the Valflame tome) a 40 defense and resistance, and a 70 magical attack power. Well, the hardest things in life are the most satisfying to overcome, right?

Camus, Shadow Dragon

In Chapter 20 of the OG Fire Emblem comes Camus, who has a javelin on steroids (called a Gradvius). Add in the fact Marth can’t trivialize this fight by himself, plus killer stats, and you have an incredibly difficult boss.

Nergal, Rekka no Ken

This Dark Druid has the Ereshkigal tome, which has a very high might and accuracy rate, while being light in comparison to others (like Aureola or Excalibur). Add all that up, and you have the strongest dark-magic tome in the game. Photo: Nintendo

Gangrel, Awakening

A) He’s super fast.

B) He has a weapon that allows him to attack at range (a Levin Sword).

C) If you bait the enemies around him, they’ll all come and gang up on you.

Anankos, Fates

Why is Anankos difficult? Because if you take the Revelation route, in the final chapter, he has the highest HP of any enemy in the series at 262 (286 in lunatic mode).

Ashera, Radiant Dawn

There are a number of reasons why Ashera is a nightmare. First, you have to decimate the eight barriers surrounding her. Second, she recovers about a third of her HP every turn … and that’s not even counting the reinforcements that also heal her. Third, if you don’t beat her in nine turns, she’ll put a stun on everyone, which is no fun for anyone.

Hyman (Reynard), Shadow Dragon

Shadow Dragon’s Chapter 3 boss, even on the lowest difficulty level, has an incredibly fast attack speed. He wields hand-axes too, which doesn’t help.

Gomer, Shadow Dragon

In Chapter 2 of Shadow Dragon, Gomer leads the Galder Pirates, who terrorize Galder Harbor in Tayls. What makes him so terrible is in merciless mode? He wields a hand axe, plus he has a ridiculous attack speed.

Gomes, Fire Emblem: Thracia 776

For being so early in the game, he’s fairly strong, which can be a bit of a surprise. With a throne position that ups his defense, he takes a little bit more oomph to capture than most players expect. And without Asvel? Good luck.

Batta the Beast, Rekka no Ken (The Sword of Flame)

Hard-mode Batta is no joke. He might be overlooked due to other flashier bosses, but he can be darn hard to kill and can take you several turns.
