Three new releases have helped reshape the UK games chart following weeks of stagnation, with the launch of Nintendo’s New 3DS also boosting hardware sales.
Evolve, the multiplayer-focused first-person shooter, lands at the top of the list in its debut week. This is the first time since March 2013 that publisher Take-Two has produced a UK number one that wasn’t Grand Theft Auto V. Evolve’s week-one sales were evenly split between Xbox One and PlayStation 4 editions, with only a few non-digital PC versions produced.
In second place is Majora’s Mask 3D, Nintendo’s cult N64 adventure remastered for the 3DS handheld, which was supported by the launch of the New 3DS and New 3DS XL hardware. According to retail monitor Chart-Track, the new 3DS systems increased all-format hardware sales by about 57 percent.
Nintendo’s media campaign for its new system has helped spur sales of another 3DS game, Capcom’s Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, which jumps to fourth place in its first week. As many as three million units of the game have shipped worldwide, Capcom says.
