The eight remaining players in the Southeast Asia StarCraft II Vengeance Cup are locked in and ready to battle for the title of Southeast Asian Champion at the grand finals this weekend in Bangkok, Thailand.
Local qualifiers were held in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines, with the first events happening in April. These qualifiers fed in to National Finals, where the top two performers from each country secured seats at the Grand Finals and a shot at the $5,000 prize pool.
The Players
You may recognize some of the final eight competitors, many of whom made a splash at the Southeast Asia and Singapore Nationals during the 2012 World Championship Series. If you're not already familiar with this weekend's players, allow us to introduce you.
Hailing from Singapore, Marcus 'Revenant' Tan and Jason 'Yekke' Chan, who took first and second place at the 2012 WCS Singapore Nationals, will pose just as significant a threat to each other as they will the other six players. They should, however, expect fierce competition from Caviar ‘EnDerr’ Acampado and Jose Paolo ‘JaBiTo’ Javier from the Philippines, as well as the Thai Terran Thanapol ‘RedArchon’ Kuachart, who filled out the top three slots at last year’s WCS Southeast Asia Nationals event. Our final three competitors are David ‘Proton.Wira' Lee, Benjamin ‘SSeoni’ Chan of Malaysia, and Chanin ‘Indy’ Tingruttansuwan from Thailand. While they may not have any 2012 WCS titles under their belts, they have earned the right to call themselves champions in their respective countries. Expect them to put up a serious fight at the Vengeance Cup Finals.
While we know not who will come out on top this Saturday, one thing is certain: With so many seasoned tournament veterans in the lineup, we’re surely in for a weekend brimming with epic StarCraft II play.
