With Marvel’s acclaimed Netflix shows Daredevil and Jessica Jones covering the more serious side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans of a lighter tone had much to celebrate with the news that the Captain America spinoff Agent Carter is returning for a second season in January next year. A promo for the new season has been released–watch it here:
Hayley Atwell is back as Peggy Carter, special agent for the secretive Strategic Scientific Reserve. While the first season saw Carter fighting Nazis in New York, this one takes our heroine to Hollywood. Dominic Cooper returns as Howard Stark, with James D’Arcy and Michael Murray also reprising their roles. New actors to the show include Kurtwood Smith, Ken Marino, and Wynn Everett
The first season of Agent Carter aired in early 2015 during the the mid-season break of ABC’s other Marvel show, Agents of SHIELD. Although Carter’s viewing figures were not as strong as for SHIELD, the show received much praise, and the network renewed it in May this year. The new season premieres on January 5, 2016, and launches with an extended two-hour episode.
In August, it was reported that ABC has ordered a pilot for another Agents of SHIELD spinoff. This one would focus on the characters of Mockingbird and Lance Hunter.
