Just Cause 3 looks like an insane and chaotic game, and developer Avalanche is adding a wingsuit and more grapple mechanics to make it even more intense. But this doesn’t mean that the studio isn’t focusing on story. In a new video, the developer talked about how it is expanding the motivation and background of Rico, the game’s main character.
You can watch the video below:
In the video, the first episode in a series of developer diaries, Avalanche founder Christofer Sundberg stated that the game will show off Rico’s personality more than in previous entries in the series. He described how Rico can be a horrible, destructive, cruel person, or he can be pleasant, kind, and helpful. This sort of moral flexibility is something that Avalanche is working on making more apparent and important in Just Cause 3.
The developer also shared how it is treating Rico as a savior of his homeland, crafting a story around what would happen to him following the events of Just Cause 2. They’re aiming to ground him in reality and have him reflect his actions from past games.
In addition, Avalanche team members talked about the wingsuit and the improved grapple mechanics. They’re aiming to give players more freedom than ever before. They want players to be able to fly anywhere, including through tunnels and between cars on the road, using the grapple.
Just Cause 3 launches on December 1 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. You can read our E3 impressions of the game here.
