Dated!

Gears of War 4 finally has a release date. It’s coming out on October 11 for Xbox One. The game’s beta starts later this month. It’s the first all-new Gears game since Microsoft acquired the franchise from Epic Games. [Full story]

Free Is a Nice Price

Halo 5’s Ghosts of Meridian update landed this week. The latest free update to the game added more multiplayer maps, weapons, and more. In other news, a beta for Halo 5’s new Warzone Firefight will start next week. [Full story]

Quantum Issues

According to Digital Foundry, all is not well with the Windows 10 PC version of Quantum Break. Among other things, it apparently can’t run at 60FPS and it does not have an exit button. Developer Remedy has said it’s looking into the issues and will report back soon with new information. [Full story]

Overwatch Gets Competitive

Feeling competitive? Love Overwatch? You’re in luck, as Blizzard this week announced a new mode for the game called Competitive Play. Here’s the description:

“Prepare to prove yourself in Competitive Play! Designed for those seeking a more serious challenge, Competitive Play is our new game mode in which players can compete and ‘rank up’ through a series divisions and tiers in monthly seasons.”

Black Desert Is Not Deserted

PC MMO Black Desert Online sold 400,000 copies in its first month, developer Daum Games announced this week

“Considering the upward trend, I expect that the game will achieve over one million sales this year. What’s impressive is these figures far exceed those in the domestic market,” Daum Games Europe CEO Min Kim said.

A Big Update

DomiNations, the new mobile game from Civilization designer Brian Reynolds, got a “massive content update” this week called Global Age. It becomes the 10th historic era playable in the game.

Extra Chunky

Indie developer Grimm Bros this week announced that an “Extra Chunky Edition” of its RPG Dragon Fin Soup is coming out this year, alongside a “major update.”

What’s in the Extra Chunky Edition? All of this:

  • Ability to feed pets to level them up
  • Toggle button for the grid view
  • New “Black Knight” pet inspired by Monty Python and the Holy Grail
  • New dungeons
  • New “Trash Talk” system
  • New items, recipes, weapons
