Come Together

Microsoft made waves this week when it extended an invitation to Sony to offer cross-network play between Xbox Live and “other networks” including PlayStation Network. Sony responded by saying it was open to the idea, though no Xbox One-PS4 cross-play games exist yet. [Full story]

Finally

Sony finally made it official this week. PlayStation VR will cost $400 and it will launch in October, the company announced at the Game Developers Conference. Note that PSVR also requires a $60 PlayStation Camera device and Move controllers, while optional, are important. [Full story]

PS4.5

According to development sources speaking to Kotaku, Sony may be considering releasing a more powerful PlayStation 4 system with 4K support. It’s being referred to as the PS4.5. Given how Microsoft also recently discussed a potential new Xbox One hardware revision, it looks like we’re in for an interesting, different console generation. [Full story]

Cut

Microsoft this week announced a price cut for the Xbox One. Starting March 20, US retailers will sell the system for $50 off, meaning the base package will go for $300, the lowest price ever. This is a temporary price cut, but Microsoft did not say when it will end. [Full story]

Walking Dead Theme Park

Walking Dead attractions are coming to Universal theme parks, it was announced this week. Sounds spooky. Get all the details here.

8-Bit Booze

8-Bit Aleworks is the awesome name of this video game-themed brewery/bar in Avondale, Arizona. The beers are named after games, too, including Legend of Zymur (Double IPA), Extra Life (Amber), and Princess Peach IPA (Summer Miniboss). Here is a local news story on the establishment.

What’s Next?

Final Fantasy 14 is available on PlayStation consoles and PC, but not Xbox. It looks like that’s not going to change soon, but now Phil Spencer has said he would “love” to see the game come to Xbox sometime down the road.

The Future?

They’re Back!

Paid mods are back on Steam! Sorta. Dota 2 players can now create custom content around the free-to-play game and sell it. You can get all the details here on the Dota website.

Dead Rising 3 developer Capcom Vancouver announced this week that it’s hiring for new projects, which will be developed using Epic’s Unreal Engine 4.

What Could Have Been
