Xbox One Tops PS4
Microsoft announced this week that the Xbox One was the top-selling console in the United States during October 2015, outperforming the rival PlayStation 4. This achievement is particularly noteworthy given that the PS4 received a $50 price cut during the month. Microsoft’s success was no doubt driven in part by the blockbuster release of Halo 5. It’s Here
A little game released this week…you might have heard of it. Fallout 4 launched on Tuesday. It shipped 12 million copies in one day, which represents sales in excess of $750 million. [Full story]
Back in Black
Call of Duty: Black Ops III generated $550 million in just three days, outperforming last year’s Advanced Warfare and Ghosts a year before that. Average play time per user is also up over last year, as are digital sales, among other things. [Full story]
A new video game charity has been announced. From the founder of Operation Supply Drop comes Stack-Up, a new charity that also aims to support members of the US and allied military “through the joy of video games.” Read more about it here.
Tribute
Metal Gear Solid composer Norihiko Hibino has written a tribute song for the late Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata. Listen to it here.

Don’t Call It Homefront 2
MCV has a new interview with Homefront: The Revolution developer Dambuster, in which the studio explains that The Revolution basically throws out the entire playbook of the original.
“Aanything that you remember or know about the first game: forget it now,” senior narrative designer CJ Kershne said. “It’s not a continuation of that story or that style of gameplay. There’s a reason we don’t call it Homefront 2.”
Shots Fired
Remember back at E3 2013 when Sony poked fun at Microsoft’s (since-reversed) used game policy with a funny little video? Now, Microsoft has fired back with its own. But this time, the subject is backwards-compatibility, a feature that the Xbox One offers, but PS4 does not. Watch it here.
