Looking for an adventure unlike any other? Today we’re spotlighting two series of quest lines, each with their own unique mechanics—one Horde-specific series, and one series that both the Horde and Alliance can take part in.
Welcome to the Machine- Horde
If you’re a member of the Horde, Welcome to the Machine puts a unique spin on just what a World of Warcraft quest is all about.
Your quest begins in Hillsbrad Foothils at the Southpoint Gate, where High Executor Darthalia is looking out for your future and has a task to set you on the path to greatness. You’ll be tasked with giving out three . . . tasks . . . .
As you embark on this quest (or does this quest embark on you?), you’ll meet a few very different adventurers and send them on their way, from one directionally challenged wanderer to a great hero (at least in his mind) of the Horde, to someone truly, truly . . . awesome.
In the end, you’ll earn 1,550 experience, 250 reputation with Undercity, and a choice of items that will forever remind you of your ascendance to greatness (or at least an ascendance to a skeletal horse)—for at least a moment or two.
Faction: Horde
Location: Hillsbrad Foothills
Level: 19

Surely You Joust
There’s something to be said about grabbing a Twilight Firelance and taking flight in a cave filled with bubbling molten hot lava and feathered foul, so we’re going say exactly that as we discuss this series of quests in Mount Hyjal.
Available to both the Horde and the Alliance at level 80, this series culminates in a repeatable daily quest. You’ll also have the opportunity to receive a battle pet of your choice: either the Gold Mini Jouster or the Blue Mini Jouster. You’ll also earn gold and reputation with the Guardians of Hyjal as you progress through the quests. Fans of another classic game will also find themselves filled to the brim with nostalgia.
You’ll begin this series of quests within the Shrine of Aviana, where you’ll speak with Morthis Whisperwing, who will send you to the Flamewake to speak with Farden Talonshrike for The Hatchery Must Burn.
We hope you aren’t afraid of heights, or flying, or things flying at you, or hot molten lava, because for the next several quests you’ll need to equip a Twilight Firelance, mount one of Aviana’s Guardians, and fly right into the face of danger. At least you’ll get some practice by visiting a flag on the ledge with Flight in the Firelands.
Once you have flight down, you’ll be battling Twilight Knight Riders in Wave One and Twilight Lancers in Wave Two.
In Egg Wave, you’ll need to destroy 40 Firelands Eggs to be rewarded with either the Gold Mini Jouster or the Blue Mini Jouster pet.
To complete this series of quests, you’ll need to Return to Aviana at the Shrine of Aviana in Mount Hyjal, where you’ll have a choice of quest rewards, some experience, a bit of silver, and reputation.
But wait—there’s more! If you return to Farden Talonshrike, you’ll be able to take the newly available (to you) daily quest, Vigilance on Wings. You’ll earn experience and 250 reputation with the Guardians of Hyjal upon completing the quest, and after completing it 10 times you’ll receive the achievement The ‘Unbeatable?’ Pterodactyl: BEATEN along with a mysterious Chirping Box. You should probably open it. Spoiler: this will reward you the other Mini Jouster you didn’t pick as your reward after the Egg Wave quest.
