Xbox One Getting Digital Game Preorders "Soon," Dev Says — Will You Use It?

Xbox One owners will be able to preorder a digital copy of Insomniac Games’ upcoming stylized shooter Sunset Overdrive “soon,” the developer has confirmed, suggesting the this option could be rolled out as a new system feature in the not-too-distant future.

During the latest episode of Sunset TV (above), Insomniac Games community manager Brandon Winfrey responded to a fan question about if they would be able to receive the Sunset Overdrive Day One Edition content if they buy a digital copy of the game. He said, “Yes, if you preorder the game digitally, you will get the Day One Edition content. You can’t preorder it digitally yet, but soon you will be able to.”

Winfrey also teased that people who buy Sunset Overdrive digitally will receive a “nifty gifty exclusive,” though no other details were provided. Sunset Overdrive launches exclusively for Xbox One on October 28.

Microsoft’s Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, said last month in an interview with IGN that digital preordering functionality has not been forgotten and its introduction is “on the roadmap” for a future Xbox One system update. Spencer is also aware that fans would like to see digital pre-loading available on Xbox One, pledging that this functionality, too, is on Microsoft’s radar.

Last month, Sony introduced pre-loading support for PlayStation 4.
